St Peter and St Paul's Church, Preston Deanery

Highlight • Religious Site

Beautiful old church and small but well kept graveyard and grounds, looked great in the sunshine and I'm sure the stained glass would be very impressive from the inside on a day like today.

Cogenhoe village

Highlight • Settlement

Pretty Northamptonshire Village with stone and thatched cottages high on a hill overlooking the valley. It's pronounced "Cook - no" - don't ask!

Hiking: Oak in Salcey Forest

Highlight • Natural Monument

Once a medieval hunting forest, Salcey Forest is home to some majestic veteran oaks, some over 600 years old.

There are three waymarked walking trails, a cafe and toilet facilities, making this an ideal day out for the family. Crucially, dogs are welcome too. There's also a play area for the little ones and a treetop walkway for those of a stern constitution.

Salcey Forest

Highlight • Cycleway

Plenty of parking though it is expensive, on-site cafe serving coffee, teas, lunches and ice creams. lots of walking routes for all abilities with many surfaced well enough for disabled access. The cycle route around the forest is an easy meander and perfect for taking the kids on a hot summers day to enjoy the shade of the trees. There is a treetop walk but I believe it is closed at the moment.

Fairly popular cafe for Salcey Forest walkers and wheelers alike. Plenty of outdoor seating for nice days (or if you're a bit muddy from the forest!) and there's a bike hire centre too.
