You’ve probably already read a lot from us about Pioneers. These extraordinary everyday explorers get out with komoot whenever they can and share the best outdoor Highlights in their regions. They explore for the love of discovery—and they never accept that they’ve seen it all. But who are the people behind the outdoor’s best Highlights? That’s a question we wanted to answer. Which is why when St. Anton am Arlberg invited four Pioneers to go on an adventure of discovery this summer, we decided to tag along.
St. Anton am Arlberg is an Alpine village nestled on the border of the Austrian regions of Vorarlberg and Tyrol. Famous for being one of world’s premier ski resorts—and for being the birthplace of the famous Arlberg skiing technique—there’s no shortage of adventure here as soon as there’s fresh powder on the pistes. But while St. Anton is proud of its international skiing reputation, it overshadows what’s hiding under the snow— jaw-dropping hiking, road cycling and mountain biking Highlights that can only be discovered in summer.
- Hiking barefoot across the meadows.
- Pushing each other up the Arlberg pass.
- Waiting for the sunrise on the Galzig.
To reveal the best spots in the region, then, St. Anton am Arlberg turned to the people who do it best: Komoot Pioneers. They invited four Pioneers from different walks of life—and different places within Germany—to St. Anton, kitted them out with top of the range e-bikes to explore the local landscape, and put them up in the beautiful Hotel Arlmont, a 4-star hotel complete with rooftop pool.
Jan, Jochen, Sigi and Klaus were the four Pioneers chosen by St. Anton to go on this adventure. These four everyday explorers are among some of the most active and inspiring Pioneers from the komoot Pioneers Club. Between them, they are the community-confirmed Pioneers for various sports in over 120 regions. They cycle, hike, mountain bike and run whenever they can, with their komoot profiles showcasing their passion for discovering beautiful outdoor places, both in their home regions and further afield. Just take a look at their profiles, you’ll immediately see why they stand out!
Over the course of four days, our four Pioneers were let loose to explore, experience and discover the awe-inspiring mountains around St. Anton. They hiked up to watch the sunrise from the summit of the Galzig, explored the picturesque recesses of the Rosanna Gorge, visited the beautiful surroundings of the Konstanzer Hut, cycled the breathtaking (literally) Arlbergpass, and much more – they never stopped, always hungry for another adventure. They spent every minute of the day outside discovering unforgettable places—and they created some amazing Highlights and tips for you in return.
To see what makes these Pioneers tick, we tagged along as they hiked and biked their way around St. Anton. Watch the video below to see what Jan, Jochen, Sigi and Klaus got up to on their St. Anton adventure. And find out what makes komoot Pioneers truly special.
