Lunch Time Is Adventure Time

Berlin Kreuzberg, 12 pm. The small tables of the cozy cafés and restaurants are crowded with young people, business men, hip freelancers and real geeks, looking forward to a burger or an organic salad, depending on their beliefs. I can’t help grinning, while passing them on my bike. Today, I won’t be one of them. Instead, I’ll spend the sunniest hour of the day outdoors. Roland Guggemos from Urban Sports Club is going to show me how easy it is to have a micro adventure in your lunch break. In the middle of Berlin.

Roland is awaiting me in front of Betahaus, where he works. He is standing in the sun, smiling. “Perfect weather for a little bit of exercise.” Komoot recommends a couple of Highlights in the area and we quickly discuss what we’d like to do. A couple of taps later, the screen of our smartphones show a route with all the places we chose. We also know, that our Tour will be 15,3km long and avoiding cobblestones – perfect for our thin road bike tires. Let’s go!

We’re hopping on our bikes and komoot navigates us over cycle paths to our first destination: Volkspark Hasenheide in Neukölln.

We continue by crossing Tempelhofer Feld

…in order to reach the charmingly wild gardens of Almende Kontor in between the old landing strips.

Skating on old granite plates from the old Palace of the Republic back from the times of GDR? We like it and rest at Skatepark Vogelfreiheit for a bit.

Our little city adventure is almost over. Komoot has one more Highlight for us, before it’s time for us to go back to our desks.

On top of Kreuzberg, for a brief moment, the city feels far away and small.

Off we are, swirling down the hill, into the busy streets, feeling relaxed and full of fresh energy. I already know, that this won’t be my last micro adventure during lunch break.

You know a cool place that you’d like to recommend others for their adventures?
