komoot Pioneers: A Castle & Fat Rocks

Pioneers are the first to create recommendations on the best spots in a region. How do you become one? The first step is to highlight the most remarkable spots on one of your Tours. Add a stunning photo, a short description or tip and it’s done: other’s will be able to explore your highlights and add them to their Tours.

One guy who is doing that in a fabulous way is Thomas. Living right in the middle of Bergisches Land, close to the Rhine and Sieg rivers, he’s got one of Germany’s best hiking areas right in front of his door. Thomas loves to explore new trails and the new impressions he gets on every single hike. He likes the idea of sharing his favorite discoveries and does such a brilliant job in highlighting them on komoot, that it was hard just to pick a couple for this article.

“This natural landmark is actually called ‘Fat Rocks’. They are about 350 mio years old and are located south of the Homburg Castle. The impressive rocks are quartzites from the Devonian ages.”

Homburg CastleSchloss Homburg

“A great destination for hikes! Homburg Castle is an ancient castle from the early medieval times and belonged to Earl von Sayn (later Sayn-Wittgenstein). Today it is a museum. Many hiking paths directly lead to the castle.”

“From this point, you can see Wahnbach Dam from an original point of view. This is the place from where it looks the prettiest – a true insider’s tip.”
