Whiddy Island is a beautiful and historic destination located about 3 km from Bantry at the head of Bantry Bay. The island is approximately 5.5 km long and 1.6 km wide, offering stunning views and plenty of space to explore. Its early history is a bit uncertain, but it's believed to have been inhabited around 4500 BC. By 500 AD, there were at least two monasteries and a priory on the island, which was then known as ‘Vod Iy’, meaning ‘Holy Island’. Perfect for history buffs and nature lovers alike!
