One of the few pedestrian bridges over the Great Glen, this was originally built when Thomas Telford constructed the main road along the Glen. Designed by James Dredge, he was instructed to create a single span across the river to reduce the chances of it washing away (as it had previously). When the A82 was upgraded in the early 20th Century a newer road bridge was built next door.

Measuring 46 metres in length, the Bridge of Oich is an innovative 'taper principle' suspension bridge spanning the River Oich – part of the Great Glen. Designed by English brewer-turned-engineer, James Dredge, it was built in 1854 after floods destroyed the old stone bridge that stood here previously.
The bridge was used by all traffic until it was bypassed in 1932. It was restored by Historic Scotland and re-opened to pedestrian traffic in 1997.
