Embark on a distinctive mountain biking adventure through Scotland's Flow Country with the From Forsinard Flows National Nature Reserve to Loch nam Breac loop. This moderate route spans 22.3 miles (35.9 km) with an elevation gain of 1164 feet (355 metres), typically taking around 2 hours and 50 minutes to complete. You'll traverse primarily gravel roads, with some sandy and unpaved sections, offering panoramic views of rolling peatlands, numerous peat pools, and serene lochs. Keep an eye out for specialized flora like carnivorous Sundew and Butterwort, and diverse wildlife including Golden Plover and Hen Harrier, as you ride through this wild and unspoiled landscape.

While the route is considered moderate and suitable for all skill levels, it does require good fitness due to its length and varied terrain. The trail takes you through vast expanses of moorland and woodlands, characterized by blanket bog. The remote setting means you should plan your visit carefully, ensuring you have all necessary supplies and are prepared for potentially challenging unpaved segments. The Flows Lookout Tower offers an excellent spot to pause and take in elevated vistas over the expansive peatland.

This loop is notable for its location within Forsinard Flows National Nature Reserve, which is part of the Flow Country—one of Europe's largest and most intact blanket bog systems. This area is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, significant for its biodiversity and its crucial role as a carbon store. Riding this trail offers a unique opportunity to explore this globally important peatland environment, immersing you in a vital ecosystem via gravel roads that cut through the moorland and woodlands.
