    Mountain biking

Undeniably one of the best gravel tracks I've ever ridden in the UK (or anywhere for that matter. Despite being relatively close to cities and villages, this feels a million miles from anywhere.

Watch out for puddles even in the summer, you're probably going to get your feet wet.

There's also signs up here for the Lancashire Witches Walk.

    Mountain biking

Great section of gravel trail up over Salter Fell through an area of beautiful moorland, also open to motorcycles but generally very quiet. Good surface for gravel bikes except for short section on south side

Prepare for a demanding mountain biking experience on the Salter Fell, The Cross O'Greets loop, a moderate route covering 30.8 miles (49.6 km). You will gain 2918 feet (890 metres) in elevation over an estimated 3 hours and 40 minutes, traversing the wild and remote high moors of the Forest of Bowland. As you climb towards Cross O'Greets, you'll be treated to extensive vistas across the Bowland Fells. On clear days, the views can stretch to the sea, the lower lakes, and even the Yorkshire Three Peaks, with Ingleborough often visible. This trail offers an exhilarating ride through varied scenery, including charming villages like Slaidburn and Wray.

This mountain biking route combines challenging off-road sections with quieter country lanes, making it suitable for both mountain and gravel bikes. You can typically find parking in gateway villages such as Slaidburn or Wray, which also provide amenities like pubs and tearooms. Be aware that the high moors are exposed, meaning weather conditions can change rapidly, potentially making your ride more challenging. Always check the forecast before you head out.

This loop takes you deep into the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known for its dramatic moorland and expansive views. The varied terrain and remote setting offer a true escape into nature. The combination of high moorland climbs and descents through picturesque villages makes this trail a standout option for experienced riders seeking a substantial challenge in a stunning environment.
