A common start point for hiking routes to Beda Fell is the lovely St Peter’s Church, dramatically situated at the top of a high pass between Hallin Fell and Steel Knotts. From here, there are numerous options for long routes on the hill, with horseshoes incorporating Place Fell or Angletarn Pikes, Brock Crags and Nab Scar the most appealing options, rather than an out-and-back to the summit. Glenridding, Patterdale, Hartsop and Howtown all have accommodation options.
From the 1,670-foot (509 m) summit, you can enjoy the serenity of this peaceful corner of the Lake District. The views west, towards the mighty Helvellyn massif, are particularly fine. Keep an eye out for the flourishing Martindale red deer herd, often seen scampering along the hillsides.
