Linking the famous Helm Crag to Calf Crag is a slender, rocky ridge, full of delightful knolls and numerous summits. This is Gibson Knott, a fine crest above the picturesque valleys of Far Easdale and Greenburn in the Romantic heart of Lakeland.

A fine adventure in any season, there are various ways to approach Gibson Knott. From the obvious basecamp of Grasmere, you can venture up into Far Easdale and ascend bracken-covered slopes to the aptly named Bracken Hause between Gibson Knott and Helm Crag. Expeditions into this valley showcase juniper-adorned Horn Crag, the fell’s towering buttress and its finest feature.

Alternatively, an exploration of Greenburn reveals ancient moraines and glacial erratic boulders, left behind by the Ice Ages. However you reach the summit, which is marked by a fine cairn above a rock wall, you can enjoy contrasting views towards the bristling Langdale Pikes to the west and the smoother contours of the Helvellyn range to the east.

    Hiking

Gibson Knott is a Wainwright in the Central Fells of the Lake District National Park. At 1,385 feet (422 m), it's hardly a towering mountain but with views like this it doesn't need to be. It's commonly hiked when walkers link Helm Crag with Calf Crag. Gibson Knott itself is a series of lumps and bumps along a wide ridge that falls away either side between the Far Easedale valley and the Greenburn valley.

    Hiking

Gibson Knott is a 422-metre (1,385-foot) Wainwright fell, featuring a rocky, undulating ridge walk often combined with Calf Crag and Helm Crag as a panoramic ridge walk overlooking Easedale and Greenburn Valleys. The summit is marked by a small, unassuming cairn on a rocky knoll that has super nice views of the surrounding fells.
