Alltwen Hill

Hiking

5.0

(15)

At the very northern edge of Snowdonia National Park, Allt Wen rises above Conwy town and offers spectacular views across Conwy Bay to Anglesey, as well as down over the fantastic peaks of the national park.

Hiking trails up Allt Wen and its surrounding hills are myriad, crisscrossing the area and allowing you to expand your hike to however long you’ve got time for. At just 837 feet (255 m), Allt Wen makes for a wonderfully family hike that’s exceptionally easy to access.

Classic coastal views plus a mountainous backdrop

There are numerous car parks around the base of Allt Wen and its sister hills, making it easy to choose a starting point for your walk. Hiking from Conwy is also an option, taking in Mynydd y Dref at the same time.

Hikes up Allt Wen bring you to the hill fort summit and in clear weather, the views are breathtaking. The shimmering Conwy Sands reveals its incredible vastness with Llandudno’s Great Orme hill to the north east. The Irish Sea and Anglesey dominate the view north and west. To the south, Snowdonia’s massive bulk reaches up to the sky and fills the horizon.

You can walk to Allt Wen’s summit any time of year although inclement weather will dim the experience somewhat. In the sunshine, be it June or December, this hill and its undulating neighbours are wonderful walks for the whole family.

You’ll find plenty of campsites along the coast with endless accommodation and restaurant options in Conwy and lively Llandudno. Just watch out for hungry seagulls.
