On Monday, April 15 we experienced a significant outage between 20:00 and 23:00 CEST and we want to take the time to explain what happened. But first of all, we are very sorry that this happened and our entire team is working hard to prevent similar problems in the future.
To prepare for the expected high traffic during the upcoming Easter weekend, we scheduled an upgrade of one of our databases to a larger machine. Unfortunately, there were unforeseen problems and the database went into an uncontrollable state. Four of our most experienced developers immediately jumped on the issue, but it took them more than two hours to get the system up and running again. At around 22:15, most of komoot was up and running again but still very slow and unstable. It took us almost another hour to get the whole system fully stable again.
We are sincerely sorry for this occurrence and the impact it had on many of you. We will use this problem as an opportunity for us to learn and improve for the future. We will also continue to work hard to deliver a great user experience. Thank you very much for your understanding and patience!
